Little Johnny England is
an English folk-rock band who originate from the Oxford/Banbury/Northampton
section of England.
Formed in 1999, the band takes its name
from a traditional playground song from Moulton in Northamptonshire.
At the foundation of their music is the traditional
mix of squeeze box and fiddle that is balanced by a strong
rhythm
section and a slide guitarist.
The combination of instruments
and music style creates a unique Folk Rock sound that is
drawn from English musical roots.
The acoustic set is made
up of
3 of the band’s very talented musicians:
Gareth Turner
on Melodeons,
PJ Wright on Slide Guitar and Vocals and
Guy Fletcher on Fiddle.
The band have long
standing roots in the
UK Folk tradition; however, the band joke about
rescuing PJ from the Rock scene.
Their music is primarily made
up
of original
compositions created by band members: most of
the instrumental pieces are penned by Gareth and Guy, while
PJ
contributes
many of the lyrical pieces.
The full band has performed
at many
festivals and concerts throughout the UK, Europe
and America and they have gathered an impressive following.
Playing
English
traditional music and many original tunes
and songs within a rock framework, Little Johnny England has
gained a reputation for providing an excellent evening's
entertainment.
We are
extremely honoured to welcome them to the
club and are
sure you will not be disappointed.
